History

Gulf Shores Elementary School is a part of the Baldwin County Public School System.  The school educates students from kindergarten through the sixth grade.  It is located in a city experiencing tremendous population growth.  On Thursday, February 1, 1979, plans for construction of a new school in Gulf Shores were unveiled by Paul Cleverdon of the Baldwin County Board of Education at the office of Mrs. Erie Meyer, who donated the property to the school.  Construction was completed in 1980 with 252 students attending during the first year of operation.  In 1985, an additional wing was built to accommodate additional growth.  In 1996, a third wing was constructed to accommodate more growth.  In summer of 2007, the school board completed the construction of a cafeteria expansion and a sixteen-classroom wing to accommodate sixth graders during the 2007-08 school year.
